Ginsberg D and B chanters on ebay… ![]()
‘No reed fitted’ for a new chanter by A Ginsberg, sold by his brother?
It’s a B flat chanter.
Is Alan’s health an issue? If I were a pipemaker (sung to a tune from “Fiddler on the Roof”
), I don’t think I would want a new stick of mine out there without knowing that it left home with a good reed. It seems to me, IMHO, that part of finishing a chanter is voicing and reeding it, much the same way that new cars come from the factory with a motor.

The D chanter (with reed) is here:
Just a quick question. Are the holes on the Bb chanter the normal size?
David
I’d love a Bb chanter but the fact that it’s unreeded would put me off. I agree with daveboling that a new chanter should at least have a reed.
Does anyone have the dimentions for a Ginsberg Bb reed?
I asked about it and it was a mistake
Mike Ginsberg changed it on Ebay
Its not a new chanter hence no reed.
cheers

Maybe amend the statement to ‘a chanter made and sold by the maker should have a working reed included’.
They look unusually large to me.
Bill
I agree with that very much
He has the same photos up for both chanters. Looks like the D to me.
PD.
