Harper G/A combo, tuneable, two bodies, one head $200
Glenn Schultz (Thin Weasel) D flute, cocobolo $900
The Harpers are Overton-style whistles; I find them a little easier than Overtons to play, but that’s just me. They have a nice combination of growl with a touch of sweetness
I’ve had a lot to say about the TW flute on the flute board. Basically, I find it difficult to play, but when I’m in sync with it, the sound is incredible. It’s versatile, from growly to very sweet. It’s drop-dead gorgeous, although it’s darkened in the 4 years of its life. It’s (very) loosely based on a Rudall design. No C foot, large tone holes. I’m getting a little arthritic in the hands, so it’s getting hard to handle.
All prices include shipping in the US. I can only take payment in USD. Please PM or email with inquiries.
FWIW-- I have an identical Schultz flute and it’s really a killer great flute. I’ve brought it to sessions and Chiff gatherings and everyone is impressed. Since Glenn isn’t around to make these any more, someone ought to jump on it. He never did make a huge number of flutes. This is really special.
I almost had a heart attack when I saw $900 dollars next to a Thin Weasel! Then…I saw that it is a FLUTE. My heartrate came down to normal. That’s got to be a darn sweet player.
My Lord, that’s about DOUBLE the original list price. Maybe I should ask $1800 for the flute. NAH.
edited to correct: It’s the Bb/A whistles that were $384. Last I knew, the D’s were 290, so it’s 2.6 times the original price (it looks like a pretty recent one to me).
Hey Mont. OMG! I had seen that, and was wondering how it was doing. I saw it when it first came onto ebay. And…IT WAS IN FLORIDA!!! He could’ve been my neighbor (not really, since Atlantic Beach is a little ways off. Oh well…c’est la vie!
Chas I want that Flute really really badly. Paul’s Shultz Flute that I played at the Gathering seemed to be the perfect Flute. I can’t even explain how much I want that Flute, of course I have no money and no hole of ever owning that Flute.
