FS-Seery-SOLD

Hi all, I unfortunately am selling my Seery. The last 9 months or so, I’d renewed my flute playing after a tendonitis-induced hiatus. Well, The tendonitis is back, and worse. I’ve had to have cortisone shots in my wrists. My fiddle playing never bothered it. To play the flute without putting myself in misery requires such a short period of time as to be impractical for maintaining my ability. So it is with regret that I post the flute for sale. I’ve tried all sorts of things to improve playing comfort, but I have a predisposition to this thanks to some of my old s**t jobs. I guess It’s good that I hadn’t yet plopped a grand or more down on a nicer wood one yet.

This Seery is a particularly nice one. I think it’s a later one, seems better made, voiced and tuned than the first I had. I really like the embouchure on this one. The finger holes were all smoothed out by a flute maker prior to my purchasing it. The headjoint cork is nicer than other Seerys’ I’ve seen too. Excellent condition with a Cavallaro roll. I’m asking $300, which includes USPS priority mail shipping w/insurance. I prefer money order over personal check, but a check is fine. I’ll just wait till it clears to send the flute. If you have Paypal, I suppose I can take payment that way too. I can provide that info via PM. I’d love to see this flute have a good home. It’s becoming neglected since I can’t bring myself to play through the pain!

PM if interested.

P.S. I’m gonna catch some hell for this from a few people I know!

That’s a real bummer, but at least you can still play fiddle…

That’s a good price for your Seery. I’d never seen an older Seery delrin model, but I’ve seen several comments that his new ones are much nicer than older models (I’m sure he has improved his delrin model with time and experience). Mine is newer and is very nicely made - the tone holes were smooth when mine came directly from Desi via Frank.

Have you tried a small hands version flute - ie - like perhaps the Casey Burns folk flute? Just thought maybe the spread on the Seery with the big tones holes could be causing your pain…

Eric

Yeah, I think it’s a later one. Great flute for what it is. The spread isn’t the problem, I have big hands and long fingers. From several unergonomic jobs, and a few years of mountain bike racing, my tendons have thickened and consequently become inflamed. The fiddle’s never bothered it because my left wrist is not bent, and my right isn’t doing any fingering and supporting at the same time. It’s amazing how painful it gets. Sometimes I have to stop mid tune and soak my wrists. It’s a real bummer 'cause I love playing the flute. Not too many adaptations in position I can do to compensate, unlike the fiddle. I use a shoulder rest now with the fiddle which grew out of the tendonitis.

Ouch…well, it sounds like you if want to play flute anymore a nose flute is about your only option - luckily they give you that Hannibal Lector look which folks find so attactive… :stuck_out_tongue:

Seriously though, that would be frustrating as heck. Sorry you have to sell, but I bet it’ll sell pretty fast.

Eric

very sorry to hear of your troubles, Corin. i’m sure you’ve tried many of the things we might suggest already. how about piper’s style playing? that was a real turning point in playing comfort for me. or, have you ever tried one of the Olwell bamboo flutes? they are so light you can almost forget you’re holding one. i have D, Eb, & low C bamboo Olwells, & though unique sounding they can be deeply and powerfully expressive, & pretty darn reedy w/ the right embouchure!

best regards, /dan

I did try piper style. It didn’t seem to suit me well. Plus it didn’t help the right hand/wrist. Which oddly enough bothers me more than the left even though it’s not really bent. I’ll have to be a lurker/punter on the forum now :frowning: There’s always the whistle board! I’m still playing that. Hmm, maybe I should start a Fiddle board

The Seery is sold. Sigh…just played a last few flute tunes. Now where’s my Ibuprofen gone to???

I knew it would go fast. Sorry you’ve lost a friend, but you’ll save a fortune in ibuprofen now…

Eric

I’m sure my liver and kidneys will appreciate less ibuprofen!
