Dear Fluteplayers
Ok, so the whole recovering from skin cancer thing hasn’t gone as well as planned. It turns out that the nerve damage in my cheek is pretty much putting an end to my flute playing. Which I guess I will have to live with.
My problem, I have two instruments, and no use for them.
The Copey is about 3 months old or so, its blackwood with a nickely silver slide and sterling rings, wonderful player, which has a really nice hard low range. New $865 I am looking for aroun $750 or so, it hasn’t been played all that much due to my obvious problem, but I’d say its played in.
The McGee blackwood pratten, is the result of a trade for a historical flute of mine for one of his keyless prattens with tuning slide and rings in silver. It will be brand new and I won’t be playing it, in fact I can probably ask Terry to ship it straight to you. Terry asks about $1200 USD for these, I will ask about $1000 for mine.
Please send any offers via pm, or email, per board rules.
Thanks guys

Just a note that Demon_Piper (Mark) has always come through for me. I had purchased his Mark Hoza flute (now passed on to a flute maker), and traded for his Busman whistle (which Jon C. has now scooped out to give me the longer beak I prefer).
He posts from Canada, though, and mail has been very slow on parcels to me in the U.S (about 4 weeks each time), although they were postmarked as sent promptly. It’s not just him, as other Canadian stuff has been slow, but I have little problem with items from other countries.
Mark, I wish you all the best on your recovery.

Dear Kevin
Thanks for the note, I appreciate your wishes, the treatment is actually mostly done. It’s just the healing which seems to be taking awhile, luckily I can still play whistle!
It really is annoying that the postal service across the border from Canada to the US is so poor at the moment, though it is fine from the US to Canada. Still can’t say I blame anyone for a tighter border. But anyone with Canada to US shipping experience that knows the best way please chime in and enlighten me, it would be much appreciated!
Again, thanks Kevin!

What coast are you on, Mark?
Best of luck in your recovery. By your username I take it you play pipes as well. Provided you play the bellows style, that should be ample recreation, no?
Cheers,
Aaron
I am on the east coast (more or less). And yes I play pipes but not bellows, but GHB and SP actually.

That stinks. Are you able to play GHBs with your condition?
You should be able to shift into bellows-blown SSPs . . . at the very least. They’re fun to play.
Stuart
GHBs can be rough on the mouth. I would agree shifting to a bellows-driven instrument is a good option. Border pipes will still offer that more strident tone of the GHB.
Don’t forget the dark and dangerous world of uilleann piping.
Cheers,
Aaron
There have been several occasions when I thought
some physical malady would end my fluting,
and even swore off flute–but I seem to have
recovered from all. My cubital tunnel syndrome
thing, which was really a problem, is now
entirely gone. I had some weird lip-problem
for months which made playing touch and go,
much discomfort, but it’s gone too.
So I hope it goes for you. Also I have a concertina
in reserve. Anyhow I hope the very best for you
and your recovery. Jim
