FS 2 Flutes

Ok, so back on the same rant I guess.

The Dekeyzer Mopane Session flute in D, now that the crack is obvious is off to the shop to have the hairline in the barrel sealed, new price $325, that’s way below retail, and considering how nice a flute it is a great tag. Why can’t I keep it? I’m allergic! It causes some funny irritation, and I don’t feel like supergluing a flute! Apparently most people don’t have any trouble with this wood.

The Hall and Sons I’m going to make into a real bargain $1200. It is cocus, with 8 sterling keys (pewter plugs). It is a later flute, with larger holes, kind of a ruddall american hybrid but in tune at 440 right on. The headjoint and barrel are replacements made by Jon C. The flute sounds incredible and looks gorgeous, it’s a very red cocus. I’ll throw in a new copy of Matt Molloy’s Shadows on stone. Jon C said this was a very good flute, and I’ve heard the same at local sessions a great deep tone and it’s very focused, not really breathy. You can roll a wicked bottom hand (hard D, G etc) off of it.

Both some with pistol case, swab rod, cork grease.

There are pics of the Hall on the forum somewhere. I can email pics and sound samples.

The sales will be final though as I am leaving on army training and won’t be able to take returns/ refunds because I will be incommunicado. So I priced them both for a quick sale.

Thanks

OK, the Hall and Sons doesn’t seem to draw much attention am I doing something wrong in my sale attempt?

anyway, the flute is also obo, so feel free to make an offer, there’s no harm in trying!

I’d love to have your Hall and Sons flute - I recall loving the way it looks and I’m growing, despite my attempts to squelch it, interested in American flutes.

Unfortunately, the tree that will be cut down in my backyard next week and a long overdue and promised trip to Disneyland for my son leave me bereft of funding…

Won’t someone help our Canadian brother out here?

Eric

PS - I can’t quite wrap my head around the concept of the Ducks winning Lord Stanley’s Cup…ducks simply should’t play hockey.

Here is the link, it looks like a splendid flute!

What about low C, C#?

C and C# work, but I’m not great at playing them and I haven’t practiced dooing it enough to really push them out!

No more Dekeyzer.

The Hall and Sons remains!

I’d take the kid to Disneyland next year. He’ll remember the trip much better.

It’s for his own sake… :smiling_imp:

Sylvester - you’re evil, pure evil…besides, I don’t like sleeping outside in the summer heat and humidity for the next month or so after my wife kicks me out of the house.

Can you tell me how this performs in the upper register- as in how high can you go? I’m particularly interested in the ease of jumping to notes above C6 (D,E,F,G) as the non-Itrad stuff I play often takes me there.

I have played a bit into the lower part of the third octave. It takes more embouchure control than I am used to but I can pull off up to a passable G. I have however only done this a few times, and only with one of those 40 dollar tuners to help me.

That said, if I can’t do it, it can’t be too bad because I had never tried it on my previous and current keyless flutes, as I knew none of them were really designed for it the way this one was. The low keys also just had a tune up, I’m starting to get a decent C nat out of it and the C# now rips quite easily. As with the part about me selling the flute though, I don’t have anything to use said low notes for!

So, the best answer to your question is that it seems doable, and if you know how, you can probably do it much better than I. I lack any classical flute training (I started with Highland Pipes) so playing crazy other flute music hasn’t hit me yet!

Though I am considering a Ren consort of flutes, if I can ever find enough other flute players interested!
