This year marks two anniversaries for me: thirty years teaching the tin
whistle and fifteen years since the publication of my Clarke tin whistle
tutor. To celebrate, I plan to climb to the top of the Empire State
Building and play “La Paloma” on two tin whistles. (Perhaps I’ll rent a
King Kong suit for the occasion…)
I’ll also be inaguarating the NY fall whistle season with a free tin
whistle workshop on Sunday, September 14 from 2:00 to 5:00 PM at The
Irish Arts Center, 553 W. 51st St. between 10th and 11th Ave. in
Manhattan.
The workshop is divided into three sections: Absolute Beginners, 2:00 to
3:00 PM; Advanced Beginners, 3:00 to 4:00 PM; and Intermediate (Intro to
Ornamentation), 4:00 to 5:00 PM.
In addition to the free workshop, this fall I offer a full complement of
whistle classes and uilleann pipes and Irish flute lessons at my
home/studio in mid-Manhattan.
For workshop reservations or information about classes, etc., folks can
e-mail me at bill@pennywhistle.com or call me at 212-247-3231.
Continued success, health and happiness to both Dale and Bill. This is generally the first site I get onto every day and I started with Bill’s book/whistle(Clarke C)/tape many years ago and have thankfully been able to study with him for years as well. Thanks to both of you.
I must put my congrats in as well. I, too, owe a lot already to the fine teaching Bill has given us through his Book/CD combo. And if it were not for the fine people here in this forum, I may have not realized how invaluable it really is.
So thank you, Bill, for your many years experience and a wonderful book. Keep on tootin’ and tutorin’!
I met Bill approximately 36 hours after stumbling across Chiff & Fipple. Coincidence? In the four and a half years that have elapsed since then, a day rarely goes by that I do not stop in and see what’s doing on the Board. And rarely a week goes by that I am not playing catch up ball for Bill’s Monday night class. Bill’s knowledge, methods, love for the music and concern for the progress of his students make him a great teacher. (Oh yeah, and his wit and neat stories about singular individuals in the wide world of the pennywhistle.)
Anyway, all of this has added a lot to my day to day and I wanted to say congratulations to Bill on the dual anniversaries and thanks to Dale for providing a convenient way to do so.
