I’d like to extend an invitation to any Chiff and Fipple subscribers who
might be passing through New York this summer to stop by for a whistle,
flute or uilleann pipes lesson. My regular group classes are on summer
break, so I have some openings for private sessions.

I would like to say that I went in for a lesson from Bill Ochs. Some of you
may know that I already have a great teacher, but there aren’t any
summer lessons for me, so I signed up for 2 things, a Scoiltrad lesson
from Conal (excellent as ususal), and then one from Bill Ochs where the
teacher can also see you play.
Bill has students that come in from all over the country, so this is not
just for locals. His studio is easy to get to and if you don’t live in nyc,
well I walked past several hotels on the way.
Bill Ochs is a terrific teacher and I’d highly recommend him. You bring a
tape and go home with the entire lesson on it so there’s nothing to forget.
His teaching skills are excellent, very specific, and aside from that he is
really nice, and is a great player. It was also fascinating to hear about
and see the techniques that Micho Russel used, his specialty.
And no I’m not being paid for this glowing report, I just loved the lesson.
