I’m looking for some advice on flute workshops in Ireland, Scotland or Germany in the Summer (I guess any time after 2. April). I thought I should spend some of the money I’ve saved by not buying another flute for a while and treat myself to some broadening of horizons.
Boxwood sounds ideal, but Canada is a bit further than I want to go. Anyone been who could convince me to try to go anyway? Ireland is close thanks to RyanAir and others. Scotland is home. And Germany is where I am right now.
Otherwise, any recommendations? The length and quality of the workshop are related to the distance from Hamburg. i.e. I’ll go further for a longer/better recommendation. It would be nice if the workshop was attached to a larger festival, but not essential. I can probably manage a week full time somewhere, or a number of long weekends.
Also, does anyone know if the Shtland Fiddle Frenzy is on in 2007, and if so, when and do you have a link? I can only find information on 2006.
I genuinely enjoy the structure, setting, and food of Boxwood. What a wonderfully spiritual five days, of good fun, learning new things, and laughing; not to mention great food.
Boxwood is a blast! A very adult summer music festival, with participants from a huge geographic range. Last year’s coaches were from Canada, USA, France, Ireland, and the Netherlands. Participants from every corner of North America, and two (travelling separately) from as far away as Australia! It would be great to have more participants from other lands such as Germany, and you could keep up your German by reading the oldest grave markers around town (Lunenburg was originally founded by Germany migrants). It’s a beautiful little town, and truly worth the visit, even if you decide to stay out of the cemeteries

It’s very good. No idea who the teachers are yet but it’s usually Harry B, Maureen McGrattan and Hammy. You need a car. Accommodation ranges from Hotels to hostels.
