I have an older Doyle flute case for my Doyle flute. The thin felt, covering the inside of the box, has come off. What kind of glue should I use to re-attach the felt?
thanks,
Jason

3M Super 77 Spray-on.
I’ve made a lot of felt-lined cases and I use white carpenter’s glue. Spread it evenly, not too thick, don’t let the felt blot it up.
I second Dave’s recommendation of spray-on - when I use it, I make sure to leave the case open to the air for a while before I put a flute in it, however. Not sure if it’ll damage anything, but the smell (before it completely cures) makes me think it might not be good for wood. I usually leave the case open for a couple of days and haven’t had any problems. The good thing about the spray-on stuff is that it gives a uniform (and thin) coating.
I used to use spray on, but have switched to watered down wood glue. Like mentioned, paint on an even coat, you don’t want to much glue saturating the fabric.
I have used wood glue, but I made the mistake of letting it soak into the felt and I can confirm that this is not good.
So, spread a very thin layer first, then put the felt on.
Is there a particular kind of felt or velvet favored for lining instrument cases? It seems like there are a lot of options.
