Hey guys maybe someone can help me. I’m lining a metal attache with Ester Foam (camera case foam) to make a custom harmonica case. What glue can I use to stick the foam down with? Any tech advice. Thanks in advance.
Typically, any form of (spray or brush on) contact adhesive will bond foam to a non-porus backing. Many instrument case manufacturers are forced to use non-flammable products to comply with fire safety regulations however, they may pose some health risks.
Check the label for toxic warnings. You should test a sample piece to see that it doesn’t give off any bad odors after it’s dry.
I had a guitar case manufactured by SKB that gave off a horrible smell that permeated the guitar and made me cough. I tried leaving the case open for weeks to vent but the smell never disapeared.

Spray on contact cement should be perfect for what you are attempting. Just have to be sure the material makes good contact when pressing in.
For smaller projects, I’ve frequently used Weldwood Contact Cement from the local Home Depot or hardware store. It has a brush applicator. Note that you don’t need to completely adhere the foam. Fastening at a few critical points might work well. Also works well for applying a leather “skin” to a solid whistle case, such as PVC.
