Flook's Farewell

Flook just sent out a notice that they are disbanding:

too slow Brad, BigDavy beat ya to it in the IRTrad Forum https://forums.chiffandfipple.com/t/flook-calling-it-a-day/61234/1

Ah, they must have put the announcement up on their site before they sent out the email this morning.

But since they really are not an “IRTrad” band (a friend of mine who knows Brian Finnegan says he usually refers to their music as jazz), it’s still worth a mention on the flute and whistle boards

close enough for something, innit!

that’s the lovely thing about jazz

Without a doubt it ain’t jazz, but I will miss Flook.

It’s always sad to hear of the breakup of a group of fine musicians.

Flook

13 years. Hmmm.

Maybe they’re just taking some time off to have a bar mitzvah

Perhaps Sarah just needs some time with her child. I really hope they’ll get back together, was gutted when I heard the news..

I too have lamented Flook’s Farewell but just stumbled across this artist whom, from the clips I have heard, plays with a contemporary stylization similar to Flook. Maybe some are already familiar, but if not, you should check out Nuala Kennedy and a couple of her video clips at http://www.nualakennedy.com/index.htm .

I’m very sad to hear that Flook is splitting up. On the other hand, maybe the band-members will now do some solo projects or team up with some other folks and again change the way we think about the music.

In the meantime, yes, Nuala Kennedy is wicked frickin’ awesome:

Nuala Kennedy and Claire Mann and, unless my ears deceive me, Bb flutes.

Is Claire there too? I had missed that. Nice.
I had the pleasure of having dinner with her once long ago when I was an undergraduate… I was smitten.

Some years ago, when I was at Sandy Bell’s (pub in Edinburgh) I met her, we even played some jazzy stuff together, was very cool.
