Mike McGoldrick joins Flook

Hello all,

Just heard that Mike McGoldrick is joining the band Flook on a permanent basis after a successful tour in the U.S..

Wondered if anyone could verify this and what people thought??

He was a founding member of Flook (he’s on their first recording, the awesome “Flook Live”), so it’d be great if he came back.

McGoldrick was filling in for Sarah Allen on the recent US tour since she had just had a baby. Don’t know if it is a permanent addition. I’m pretty sure he has done shows on and off with them over the past few years, even after he officially left the band

If McGoldrick rejoins Flook, will they make him stand on one leg in a stork position while he plays, like Sarah Allen had to do when she was in the band? After seeing that, I just assumed it was some sort of hazing ritual…

Bummer. I just thought she was imitating me.

I’ve seen quite a few flute players do that… maybe tapping the foot just isn’t dramatic enough

odd innit?

I thought Sarah stood on the right foot

Standing on one leg??? Isn’t that Ian Anderson’s trick, or do we not know about Ian Anderson around here?

I thought Ian Anderson stood on his head. Now, that’s a trick.

Seriously, I don’t know why, but there’s something about standing up and playing the flute that makes me want to imitate a stork. Stretching one or the other leg, tension release, or some weird sort of yoga – I don’t know. It’s completely unconscious. Anyway, I’ve worked very hard on not doing it over the years; it used to get me marked down in solo competitions. I also have a bad habit of leaping about. It’s like there’s just too much energy or something.

Of course, if I was as little and cute as Sara I wouldn’t care. But a middle-aged woman with about 25 pounds of extra junk in the trunk? Eh, not so much.

That’s neat about her baby. Congratulations to her!

sure…and the rock guitar accordion stance…

back to the burning question: which foot do you stand on?

Interestingly enough, I was told recently that as an ITM flute player, I didn’t have a leg to stand on at all.

then pull up a chair

Did ye hear the one about the Irish flute player with two wooden legs?

He caught fire and burned to the ground!

That’s great to hear. I caught up with them in Madison last month (with Mike in tow) and the show was excellent.
