Wanted to post a message to the Message Board (just registered) but it’s
too late at night and I don’t really know how it’s done…
We’re in North Carolina, three dates into our US tour.
Couple of new dates have come in, and I particularly wondered if you could help spread the word about our New York date, which takes place at the
ridiculously early time of 5 pm, at :
Arlene’s Grocery,
95 Stanton Street ,
New York, NY,
212-358-1633,
$10 cover. http://www.arlene-grocery.com/
Saturday, May 3 @ 5:00pm
Also, we are playing tomorrow (Sunday) at the Willows Folk Club in
Wilmington, Delaware…
Saw them in Asheville, NC a few days ago, wonderful show. Don’t miss them if they are coming any where near you.
Loren
P.S. Colin and Brigitte, the whistles (Goldie Overtons, for those of you wondering) all sounded fantastic But what, not a single anodized whistle for either Sarah or Brian?!?! Someone needs to tell those two they could use a little color!
yeap, well worth a 2-3 hours drive to see them play, you’ll not regret it one bit.
just come back from Paul McCartney gig in Cologne, lots and lots of old (Beatles) stuff… even for not being a manic fan like Colin I liked it , 3 hours of concert (there are not a lot musicians who can do that) and the audience singing away like mad… And now I cannot await Wednesday to see Peter Gabriel in Oberhausen yahooooo…
ooops… back to Flook and for those of you who do not know Flook’s music, first suggestion is to get to the nearest gig where they are playing and you will end up buy their albums… all of them… and maybe a few copies extra as they are great presents
need to wind down now from the concert, may take a while, good night
I caught them in DC at the free Kennedy Center Concert. In fact, they invited me out to dinner afterwards, but I couldn’t go. (Okay, they invited the whole crowd. But I was in the front row
Note that the bodhran player (whose name I forget) couldn’t get a visa, so there’s a stand-in who played snare drum (quite well, I thought).
The Kennedy Center performance was taped and ought to be available from their website.
Scott, thanks for mentioning that it was taped. We did a quick search and the gig is already online under http://www.kennedy-center.org/programs/millennium/archive.html#search
The concert is about an hour long and well worth watching. Sorry you missed JohnJoe and I am sure he is sorry, too. Jim who stood in for JohnJoe does a good job, we have seen him before playing in the Netherlands with the band, he is a brilliant percussionist and tune writer.
I find it amazing seeing them for the umpteenth-time and still they are improving and improvising all the time and it does not get boring one break of a second. Tomorrow they play tomorrow at The Burren http://www.burren.com. and from their website I learned they will be in the US until the 3rd of May at leat http://www.flook.co.uk/html/diary.html If you can make it to one of their upcoming gigs, take the chance.
Just received the two CD’s I had ordered and they (Flook) are indeed excellent. I am bouncing off my chair at my desk right now (fortunately it is lunch time and most other people are out at the moment… )
Indeed. The concert is now looped and playing in the background as I work (and try to catch up for the hour I lost the first time through). I’ve never heard the flute used as a percussion instrument before. They are amazing.
Can we talk them into stopping off in Atlanta on their way home from NY?
i would have liked to here johnjoe in geleen (nl), but jim was also good. hey, brigitte, i’ve heard you play a mean bodhran yourself. i’ll send you a pm to arrange a personal session at our place (with cornbread, of course).
I have listened to each CD twice now and can’t get over how good theses guys are. The second one, more particularly, is an absolute killer (“Rubai”)
If you haven’t heard them, RUN AND GET’EM NOW!!!
