Cackle (It's a Welsh Thing)

I have Flook tickets for friday 11th Feb in Pontardawe
01792 863722 = box office number.
Anybody else going?

I’ve just bought Rubai, but I had no idea they were playing Pontardawe. I think I’ll be ringing that box office number tomorrow…

You’re slacking EDF, what no Lunasa tickets for Cardiff on Jan. 20th  ?

Humbug!

Trisha

I only found out about the Ponty venue 'cos I’m on the Art Centre snailmail list.
The doors open at 7pm.
The bar opens at 7pm.
Concert starts at 8pm.
I’ll be there at 6:55 - just to make sure of my seat of course
and to meet any other ‘chiffers’ wot get there

Pontardawe is only 9 miles away over the mountains too,
so it’s within walking distance if necessary, while Cardiff is
is a 50+ mile trip away, which means the broomstick will need
a dusting!

Wow EDF can I borrow your broomstick  ?

I just got round to buying my tickets. Might see you there then!

i saw flook live too. they are one of my top 3 favorite ‘bands’. You’re gonna love the concert.

I have tickets B6 & B7 - I think it’s a table middle front.
Mrs Fool, 5’2" and cuddly, will be with my handsome bearded self :stuck_out_tongue:
See you there.

I don’t know where my seats are (I’m collecting them on the night) but I’ll be sure to say hello to he occupants of B6 & 7

Sorry I missed you at the gig - I did ask one bearded stranger at table 5 if he was the Easily Deluded Fool, but since he wasn’t I had to add a hasty explanation to avoid getting biffed.

But wasn’t it a great night?!

Fantastic!

I was on the table right at the middle front,
but on the opposite side of the table.
I was prolly at the bar when you approached
the other bearded man

  • on the stage side of the table.
Mrs Fool mentioned it when we were going out. Apologies.

Nobody else here will believe that Brian Finnegan was wearing a cowboy hat!

Literally folks, there was dancing next to the stage, nevermind the usual
‘twitching’ in the seats.

If you want to see a wizard with a whistle, go see Flook.

I suppose it’s a bit unfair to single out one performer, because a band is a
collaboration - the whole being greater than the sum of its parts,
with John Joe Kelly giving a solo performance on the bodhran that made the place errupt in applause,
but whistles is what we’re about, so…

I have seen Altan, and Lunasa at the Ponty Arts Centre,
seen the videos of Michael McGoldrick, Phil Hardy etc, but with all respect to those guys,
I have never seen anything quite like Brian Finnegan’s playing last night.

I was close enough to see something of the way he uses the distance
from the mic’ to create sound effects,
and the way he moves the flute against his lips, and some of his finger techniques.
Just do yerselves a favour, go and see him play.

Absolutely stunning!

Flook said they are in the recording studios on Monday,
so it looks like a new CD will be out in the near(ish) future,
and if I remember correctly, there was some mention of a Cardiff performance to celebrate ten years of Flook.

After deciding not to throw my whistles out after realising there is no way I’m ever going to be that good,
I’m off to practice - just to see how near I can get - and annoy the neighbors cat some more

Haha, I got Paddy Keenan tickets for his show in Santa Cruz. Beat that. :stuck_out_tongue: Just kidding. Hope everyone enjoys their shows, I know I’ll enjoy Paddy’s.

Brian Finnegan is the God of whistles. End of discussion.

There would´nt by any chance be a clip with this guy around somewhere?

There are samples on their website at http://www.flook.co.uk/cd_tracks.htm. Their album Rubai is great (imho), but the live experience was extraordinary.

Hm…that´s neat. Unbelivebly distinct at that speed.
As a band I find it´s a bit on the slick side for my taste

Is it some kind of tripple tounging, or is it more like saying “trrrr” into the whistle on the Sligo reel clip…?

That I wouldn’t know!
