I’m curious what you modeled the chanter on?
Also, the ferrules look very nice. Did you hand roll and taper them?
After making the triple bore bass drone, are you happy with the results? I’m going to take that on myself, rather than makinga brass loop. I like the compact look, though have no idea how it sounds in comparison.
How long did it take to make?
Yes, you cannot beat top quality information and experience! The chanter was only rough turned and profiled at that stage. It is in the Taylor style, with the standard folded keys now. Ferrules are stock brass tubing, spun up and tapered on the lathe. The bass drone section was tricky to make; gun drills and very accurate mounting and centring are essential, and I had to sink the connecting airways and smooth and polish them to get a good wave of air through the bends.
The whole work took about two weeks. The sound is good, and I have made some brass bodied reeds with carbon fibre tongues which are very light and stiff, so the whole set does not take much air.
