Finally stumbled upon www.liveireland.com

I was surfing the web earlier this week and stumbled upon
http://www.liveireland.com
[smacks self on forehead]

How in the world did I ever live this long without knowing about this site ?
Maybe I should visit these forums more often. Or Dale needs to add a link on his home page

I clicked on streams, then selected channel 1 for the Traditional/Folk music.
My computer is now running 24 hours a day, streaming irish music into my home.

Now, if I can only figure out how to make it work at my job, since we use Unix workstations, not Microsoft or Apple based operating systems. We access the web through an emulator on a separate network. Time to bribe the folks down in network administration.

Cool, I just completed a small media server connected to my tv and stereo, sounds nice.

They have an mp3 stream too which works fine on Unix with the right player, look at xmms. I’m using Linux right now. I’m not sure what you mean be emulator, do you mean there’s a proxy setup? Most streaming players will let you set the proxy address.

Eddie

I haven’t listened for a while but I bought about 10 good cds because of them a few years back. We have discussed them at length on this Forum. Main prob is when they recycle programs a bit too much. But its a very refreshing first discovery.

CJM,

Thanks for the link! I’m listening as I write and I’m lovin’ it!!

Peace,
Fran
:sunglasses:

Hi All,

Also worth a listen are ā€˜Ceili House’ and ā€˜The Late Session’ on the RTE1 website. These are archives of the current week’s show - about an hour long and updated each week. You’ll need to install real player first - make sure you remove the ticks from the "Yes send me spam… " boxes.

Another good site is WFUV.com - take a look in their archives at the show ā€˜A Thousand Welcomes’.

Enjoy,

Andrew.

LiveIreland just plain ROCKS!!! Thank you sooo much for providing this link!! I too have it on as background!!! THANK YOU!!!

Listening to the BEST MUSIC IN THE WORLD!! (Irish Trad naturally!!)

Nancy

As Eddie pointed out, on Unix (Linux e.g.) you simply need a player which can deal with streamed MP3, coming from LiveIreland’s URL, currently:

http://69.57.152.94:8000 (low bandwidth)
http://64.246.30.41:8000 (high bandwidth)

XMMS is one of the better ones out there.

I’ve tuned in a few times & everytime it’s been a tepid celto-new-agey form of sonic wallpaper. Is there a specific time when they play real ITM? There’s alot of good shows on RnaG at www.rte.ie Lan a Mala (Rub the Bag) is a great one.

Brad,
The term ā€œhitting the nail on the headā€ springs to mind.

RnaG any time,
Slan,
D.

How do you get on the ā€œGā€ station? I do not see it on the main page?

Thank you!
Nancy

The only drag is that you need realplayer
This is the RnaG stream
http://www.rte.ie/smiltest/rnag_new.smil
Here’s the downloads page, (but it doesn’t seem to be working right now)
http://www.rte.ie/rnag/english/listen.html

http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/aod/folk_promo.shtml?link

There’s some good shows here as well

Try www.radiocelt.com too…

Welcome aboard guitarman,
Looks like a great link seems to be a lot of talking at the moment so I’ll try again after work,

Slan,
D.

Sorry if this is a bother, but RnaG’s music archives have a new URL
http://www.rte.ie/rnag/eist_ceol.html
That’s why the other link was dead.

Just googled this thread…on the programing end of things…we are rolling out more live and up to date programing this week starting July 10th. Cheers, Sean, LiveIreland.

Thanks heaps for posting that link CJM!

I’ve been searching and searching for a good Irish for station and I’d always come up empty.

This one sounds good though. Thanks again!

I’ve never hit it at a good time either. Always just gabbing or a s-l-o-w
air that turns me off when I’m wanting a nice ITRAD jig or reel.
They are 8 hours ahead of the west coast I believe; maybe thats my problem; I always get a middle-of-the-night show where everyone is
asleep! I guess I should try it at 6 a.m. here!
Lolly

A new day…I decided to leave it on all day and see #1 if it would
stay connected, which it did, and #2 if I would finally hear something
besides tenors and wee colleens and their balads.
Well, of course, I was happily confronted with tons of cool
whistle and flute playing; a good day to be inside with it 95 outside,
and hearing all those tunes as I did my housework. It sure put
a smile on my face and gave me the ambition to learn more tunes.
Lolly

I listen to Liveireland all the time!! I especially like the Ragus program.
