We had a case in a beach town in Alabama a few years ago. I really wish I’d kept the newspaper clipping. A guy is at a resort hotel with his family. They’re all in the pool. He’s drunk. He goes up to go to his room and the door is locked. He decides to get on the roof of the 12 story building and jump down onto his top floor balcony to let himself into the room. Like I said, he’s drunk. He somehow gets on the roof, slips, and is hanging on by his hands. His wife looks up and sees the guy hanging. She hands the toddler to someone else at the pool, runs in, gets on the elevator. In the meantime, he lets go. Falls 12 stories and lands…in the pool. She gets to the condo, goes out in the balcony, looks down at the pool and sees that’s where he is. Rides the elevator down and finds the guy sitting on the side of the pool holding on this side. Turns out he broke a couple of ribs but was otherwise ok.
