I have gone back and forth on parting with this set, but ultimately my current situation put me in a position where I need to say goodbye. This unusual set of pipes was made by Bill for me about four years ago. It consists of chanter with one key and drilled for second (the hole is plugged), bag with small stock and two drones (baritone and tenor), and bellows. There is room for the addition of a bass drone in the future. The chanter wood is uncertain, possibly macassar ebony (Bill wasn’t certain but it is very sweet), and the stock and drones are of macassar ebony. Because of the small stock the operation of the drones is by wooden end pegs (visible in photos). It is a beautiful sounding set. Chanter reed is very good, though may be a little tough for some, and the drone reeds are good. Includes additional chanter reeds (all of which play much softer than the one in use), additional tenor drone reed and some extra cane and staples, and some reed making supplies. Comes in a beat up viola case which fits and protects it all well. The brass could use to be polished, which I’ll take care of, otherwise all is very solid and quite airtight.
