For Sale: Full set in C

Hi All

Up for grabs is my first flat pitch set, a full set in C, made by Marc Van Daal.

  • Ebony, silver, and imitation ivory mounts.
  • Chanter has 3 keys and a stop key. Wood chanter top and overhead air supply.
  • Straight bar bass regulator which is removable via slide attachment.

I am the 2nd owner of the set. Unfotunately I do not know its precise age as the set was in the custody of a pipe maker to sell on the original owners behalf. Original owner was out of the country at the time. The pipe maker estimates it is at least 15 years old. The set spent most of its years unplayed in its case with the original owner. I understand he was having too much fun playing his Dave Williams D set instead!

Since obtaining the set, it has been completely re-reeded and a brand new leather bag was fitted about 6 months ago. 2nd chanter reed also included. There are a couple of tarnish spots, mostly on the tenor drone which will polish out. I like the old look it gives, so I left it as-is. Key springs are very crisp and leather pads in good condition and seal well.
Comes in a padded wooden pipe case.

I have been very happy with how this set has been playing. It is completely in tune and very easy to play. Crisp hard bottom note and stable back note.

Its earned its keep on many paid jobs, but its time to part ways as I have an opportunity to acquire a historic set of pipes that is a once in a blue moon opportunity. I need the funds to do this!

Price is what I paid: $6,000 (ex P&P). This does not include the costs for the new bag or reeds which I paid for later. (Huge and belated thankyou to Ian MacKenzie for spending so much time re-reeding the set and making the bag). Obviously if my price expectations are unrealistic please make an offer… I will happily accept more if they are undervalued

I have pictures but cannot upload them to flickr/photobucket here at work. Will happily email on request, otherwise I will attempt to upload some tonight (Oz time) when I get home.
