Hey all… is anyone out there using Mozilla Thunderbird as an email client? I’ve been using Eudora Pro, but was contemplating switching to Thunderbird–any pros or cons that you’d care to share?

I’ve got it installed on my home system.
It does what I want, and seems to have a good filtering setup, but I haven’t been beating it up a lot, either. From what I’ve seen of it, I prefer it to MS Outlook, but it’s been so long since I used Eudora that I can’t give a meaningful comparison there.
But the price is right - why don’t you download it and give it a try? Worst case, you decide you still prefer Eudora and switch back - all you’d be out is a little time.

When we moved to Conway, I made the exact same switch, from the paid version of Eudora to Thunderbird. The reason is that our ISP here requires unusual SSL port settings. While Eudora is supposed to support this, I could never get it talking.
Since making the switch, I have never looked back. Thunderbird is quite nice, and it’s feature set is excellent. I have found its spam-control features work better than Eudora (at least the last version of Eudora I had).
Also, it’s free! The days of paying money for the next major release are gone.
I think you’ll like it. It’s easy, powerful, and free.

Thanks DCrom and James! I’ve downloaded it and am giving it a go… will take some getting used to, I’ve been using Eudora for so many years now. I do have to give it props-- it let me import all of my Eudora settings in the setup process, so I didn’t have to go through it all again.

I third the vote of confidence for Thunderbird. Good spam control, lots o’ features. I’ve used it fairly heavily for nearly a year now and have had no significant concerns.
More important, the Mozilla folks gave it a cute icon/logo of a mythical bird protectively folding its wings around an envelope. If you use Firefox for your browser, you get a little fox with a globe, too.

We all send our love to you, too. As for the ferts…well, they have an interesting little habit they’ve picked up…they love to crawl into big-sleeved shirts. Tickles. 
Sometimes they turn around and use your sleeve for a hammock with their head hanging out (as long as you hold your arm up, anyway), other times they wind up “going exploring” and crawling around inside your shirt. Shannon and I (for reasons unknown) call this odd ferret habit “hnurkling.” 
Well, my eyes are having a bit of a difficult time, only because they’re so used to looking at Eudora-- I’ve been using it for over seven years now. But I think I can get used to it. I’m using Firefox, having given up on Netscape and IE, and also downloaded the new Sunbird calendar feature this morning. So I’ve got all sorts of cool new icons displayed on my laptop now.

Hnurkling… great word! I’m going to have to figure out how I can work that one into a conversation… 
I used Thunderbird before I went to gmail. I still use it a little. It’s pretty solid.
