I run Mozilla Firefox and I have MS Office 2003, which includes Outlook.
I never use Outlook. Intentionally, anyway.
I do, however, use the Ctrl-N shortcut in Firefox quite a lot. Occassionally I will miss and hit Ctrl-M. This brings up a new message in Outlook, causing my system to pause and chug away until Outlook opens. It doesn’t take long, maybe 10 seconds, but it’s irritating, and seems to be happening more often, probably due to carelessness on my part.
My question - Is there any way to disable the bit of Firefox that says “use Outlook to write new mail messages”? I haven’t seen anything like that in the settings. I have version 0.9.
PS - after finishing this message, I went to open a new window. Guess what I typed? Grr…
My first guess is that Firefox is NOT your default Email program. Go to Control Panel, Internet Options, Programs and change the settings to use Firefox.
Thanks, Denny, that has done it. That setting was indeed down as Microsoft Office Outlook. Too bad my other choices are “AOL 9, Hotmail, Outlook Express”…I use yahoo mostly. (Can we say ‘monopoly’?)
Now when I hit Ctrl-M it brings up Internet Explorer and prompts for a password. Not ideal, but a lot better than before - I’ve often run IE already in the session so it doesn’t take as long to load up.
