You’ve got questions? I’ve got answers… It’s a real one. Currently at $810! Plays beautifully. A bit sharp. No awful internal tuning problems. Here’s what I said on Ebay:
Description
This is a Rudall Carte simple-system 8-key cocus wood flute dating from about 1867. The serial number is 7018. I bought the flute from a well-known Dublin flute player. We are engaged in a building project in Ireland and I am trying to raise money to help with that cost.
The flute is in very good condition. There is a barely noticeable, professionally repaired crack to the head joint, which is well away from the embouchure. The embouchure is original and untouched. There is a pinned crack in the barrel joint. All the blocks are solid and the keys work well. The flute has been extremely well cared for as is evident by its condition.
The sounding length of the flute is 56.5 cm. It plays well and in tune with the tuning barrel exposed about 1.75 cm. However, depending on the way you play, the length might vary to get A-440.
The flute will come in the original leather-covered, felt-lined case with the card of the late noted dealer, Paul Davies, attached to the felt. The case itself is in good condition and will come with a custom-made nylon case cover.
This is an auction for an antique flute in excellent condition. Please ask all questions now since all sales are final and the flute is sold as-is. I hope this flute goes to an appreciative player. I am offering it with no reserve, trusting that the value of an instrument like this will be recognised by players of traditional music. I will send the flute with full insurance for the amount of the sale. Shipping and insurance will be added on to the final price. I expect that shipping and insurance will be in the neighborhood of $60 in the US, more outside the country.
Good luck bidding. The winning bidder will have many lovely hours of playing this great instrument.
