Definitely looks Pak…latest model if it has cork…who wants to be the Guinea pig ???

:astonished: RUN AWAY !!!

no then?

no

Well, for £30 or so … might be worth a whirl. Looks similar to style of flute in local music shop here made in Rosewood selling for about Euro 200. I tried a half dozen of them and thought some were nice.

They make nice lamps… :swear:

i won’t then, thanks for your advice, all.

‘Similar in style’ doesn’t mean ‘same’. Cheap Pakistani Ripoff. Suitable for being displayed on a TGI Friday shelf.

And in six months when they crack down 2/3 of the length. . .not worth it at all…unless you get a guarantee in writing that it will be refunded in full if (when) it splits.

Quite, I agree. But I do detect perhaps a little bit of snobbery when it comes to passing judgement on cheap flutes on these pages. Buying through the post is perhaps not a good idea but if one has the opportunity to try a few in a shop, then just like buying a ‘cheap’ whistle, where’s the problem. Perhaps a ‘cheap’ wood flute is just as good or better a starter or as a ‘travel’ flute as a polymer one.
Of course, there is the issue of exploitation of cheap labour but I don’t see too many people dwelling on that.[/quote]

No. Last year these same folks were selling the same “Fully Playable” FLOs for £29. Now they’re up to £34.99???

They’re pretty, and would make nice wall-hangers. But as flutes they’re unplayable shyte.

It’s a shame really, if they could cut a decent embouchure and get the tone-holes the right size and in the right place, they might be worth 35 notes for a beginner.

I bought one so I could subject it to all sorts of abuse in the name of science, and I still haven’t managed to crack it. Which is probably not surprising given the wall-thickness at the headjoint. :boggle:

If you really have a need to burn some cash, I’ll sell you a fully keyed blackwood Boehm made in China. Looks gorgeous, incapable of playing bottom B or C regardless of your skill, unless you have 30 minutes to nurse those notes into being. A pretty looking Piece of poop, cost me $1700…ouch. Listen to what these people are warning you about…some have been burned. You want decent sound, buy a decent NAMEBRAND instrument. Unless the seller states a recognized maker, why put yourself through the misery?

If cost is the issue, Hamilton makes a “practice” flute which is very reasonably priced and has received good reviews.

im not really looking to buy a flute, i have a very nice Tipple 2 piece low D, i just thought that it might be a good bargain but obviously not. thanks for all of your help  .

Triple Ouch! I don’t feel so bad about my EvilBay mistakes anymore.

Someone recently sent me one like this for a “second opinion” (you know, because I’m a doctor  ).

He couldn’t get a note out of it and wondered if it was just him…It wasn’t.

In the trade we call these FSOs…Flute Shaped objects.

Doc

And ‘Askandar’ or whatever it is, is NOT a name brand. Also, just because it plays in the store doesn’t mean it will stay together once you get it home. Utterly worthless unless you like pretty firewood.

I wonder what would happen if you did something like the Charanga conversion… fill the hole then cut another one, maybe thin the headjoint. I also wonder what process Rod Cameron goes through when he gives those things the double-bypass surgery. And sometimes I wonder what rocks would say if they could talk.
