Dublin Sessions

We’re visiting my wife’s family in Dublin for the first two weeks of July. Can anyone recommend some good authentic sessions and/or trad concerts in Dublin? Particularly pipes. Though my wife’s family are Dubliners none of them are really interested in ITM (though my wife’s cousin Frankie Lane did play for us at a little party for us last year) so they aren’t much help.

Thanks

Andrew

The Cobblestone Pub at the top of the Smithfield is the place. Call ahead of time to find out when the sessions take place.

Just as an aside, here’s a link to the Cobblestone Sessions CD page on Neillidh Mulligan’s website: http://www.neilmulligan.com/CobblestoneCD.htm

Good luck,

Patrick.

Check out Hughes’ also (near Cobblestones). Nice people.

The Willie Week schedule can change the session schedule. Hughes’ is walking distance from The Cobblestone. Tom Mulligan, Neilligh’s brother, owns the Cobblestone. There’s music elsewhere in Dublin but those two pubs would definitely have it. Nearby to those two pubs, John Kelly, fiddle, holds down the fort on Wed and Thu at the Belfry but he definitely teaches at Willie Week.

If you can’t make it to Willie Week for the whole deal, one or two days would be great, too. You could take a train to Ennis and a bus to Miltown Malbay.
