I’m taking the wife to Dublin for the new year.Anytime I’ve been before I could’nt find a good session.I’ve heard of the Cobblestones but does anyone recomend any where else.I hated all those ‘sessions’ that I came across in Temple Bar,I think there should be a law against them.

there’s a nice session in smith’s in ranelagh on a wednesday night. kieran hanrahan and such play there. i lived in dublin for 3 years and used to go occassionally. id stay its still going but maybe check out first before going out there.
I’m going on the Thursday to Saturday.
Hughes’s on Chancery Street (just behind the Four Courts,) has at least one, and usually 2 sessions every night of the week- great tunes.
Don’t they have seisiuns at the “Ferryman” in Dublin near Ringsend? I was last at that place in late '93. They served me Murphy’s when I asked for Guinness. That was a surprise.

Yeah, I wouldn’t call them sessions either. Gigs, aimed at tourists.
There hasn’t been a tune in the Ferryman for years. There used to be a great tune in Ranelagh on tuesdays nights too but I heard that stopped. Now I think of it, there is a nice tune in the Palace bar on wednesdays nights. It’s kinda on the edge of Temple Bar (geographically) beside Westmoreland St.
I suppose its only Hughes and the Cobblestone.
Oh, isn’t there tunes in the Belfry around the corner in Stoneybatter? Wednesday nights?

Try upstairs at the Palace on Fleet St, (O’Connel street end of Temple Bar) 
Also check in the Harcourt Hotel… I think it’s on Sunday evenings (at one time, anyway, some years ago)… but if you call in to the hotel they can tell you the details, if any.
Belfry has John Kelly Jnr and others on Wed and Thu nights 9:30pm.
Monday nights in Palace Bar on Fleet st (Mikie smyths sesiun/ he should be back from riverdance in december.).
Saturday nights and sunday afternoons in the Ferryman should find Hugh Healy and Barra McAllister.
Friday/sat and sun nights in hughes seem to be best nights piping-wise.
I think sunday nights in The Duke on Duke.st(another of mikies)

I was at a lovely relaxed session last Thursday at the Cobblestones. Enjoyed it immensely.
