DRIVE ME MAD!

The new album from Fiddler’s Green is available today, and the English version of their shop is online now!
Our very own Colin Goldie plays on eight tracks, and the band did a fantastic job of capturing the energy of their live performances in the studio.

Thanks for the plug Gary.
I was just reading some German reviews this morning and everyone seems to really like it. I play whistles on a few tracks as you may expect and for the first time on Cd, flute on three tracks I think, I definately know 2 with my Wilkes and 1 with my low Olwell bamboo C. two tracks with a bit of German bagpipes. I recorded with them last September and did 8 tracks in a day which by the end of it I was a bit brain dead and just knew how many instruments I played (not necessary what I played) most of what I did was worked out there and then. The funny thing I now find is that I have to learn it in order to play it live and it is like listening to someone else’s playing and learning what they did. I have only started with a couple of tunes so far and 2 I am not sure what key I played them in, must look for my bag of whistles.

They have just started a tour of Germany and I will join them on Thursday and Friday in Köln (Cologne) and Wuppertal. I should start rehearsing really as I got the setlist 2 days ago. They will be playing 30 tracks and 17 of them from the new album and I will join them for 7-10 depending what time I get to practice. Unfortunately for me I don’t get any rehearsal with the band, if I am lucky I may be able to go through a couple at the sound check if I get there early enough so I really need to know what I am doing before I turn up.

I really like the new album and would highly recommend it if you like folk/rock. If on the other hand you are only into pure trad or cannot handle swear words you would not like it. Fiddlers have there own unique style and sound and live it is always party time as they are great entertainers.

I have also been booked to play with them at http://www.folk-im-schlosshof.de/ This is a small (2500 people) but one of the nicest Irish festivals in Germany, I have played there a few times now with both Fiddlers and another band Cromdale. I will also be teaching whistle for beginners this year as I did 2 years ago. Other bands this year will include the likes of Dervish, Solas and The Oysterband (on a side note I took most of the photos on the new Oysterband album, front + back cover and on the CD itself)

Geez, this is a long rambling post, if you made it this far, thanks.

Colin

After rereading it, it sounds like I should put CP in the subject title.
