Dribbly Whistle

I can’t help but notice that when i’m playing i seem to produce copious amounts of water in my whistle, enough that it sometimes ‘clogs’ the sound from coming out clearly even after only playing it for one tune & i have to shake it clean or it drips down my trousers or shirt front..

are some people just more naturally dribbly? or is there something i can do about this??

I think the answers are ‘yes’ and ‘why worry?’ respectively. There’s nothing wrong with wetting your whistle.

Try breathing through your mouth some. With a little practice some of the moisture drys before it reaches the whistle. Works for me. In detail take some air in through the corners of the mouth and also let some out
there when blowing the whistle.

Warming your whistle up in your hand helps some, as well.

Apart from that, you’ll have to do what everyone else does–either the shake, or slap your thumb over the fipple hole and blow like 'eck.

Or both, between sets.

Or you can “baptize” the audience!

If you are really worried about it, you might want to avoid playing your whistle after eating and after brushing your teeth. I find that these are the times I tend to salivate the most.

thanks i’ll try the dipping it in washing up liquid trick

oddly the sweetone seems more dribbly than the waltons, i wonder if that is to do with the different shapes??
