Give the pianist a copy of this: Paul Hardy’s Xmas Tunebook Should be OK for most singers most of the time - but carols are always like that.
However well-intentioned, seasoned musicians end up learning how to un-do this artifice and read for their instruments in their actual “sounding” pitches, because sometimes you encounter song-writers and arrangers who didn’t get the memo.
