Dixon piccolo heads, and I love the whistle shop

So, I had to wait a little while on my last order from the whistle shop because they didn’t have Dixon’s in stock, and I had ordered the $16 non-tunable version, and they sent me the tunable model, which costs more, because they love me. Or, well, mabey they don’t love me, but I pretend they do.

My whistle count is up to…13 (gasp, that’s a lot for me). Plus a quena, and two transverse flute things.

P.S…now that I have this tunable thing I want to try a piccolo head, even if just for novelty…does anybody have a piccolo head only they don’t use that they want to sell me? I’ll buy it and pay postage. IM me or email me, or post here, or whatever.

About a month and a half ago, I ordered a Dixon low D tunable from the Whistle Shop. At the time of the order, they were out of stock on this whistle and it took them a few weeks to get the next shipment from Tony. That’s how it goes sometimes. :sniffle:

Unfortunately, when the whistle arrived there were a couple of problems with the head. :sniffle: :sniffle: The whistle would play, but it was very finicky and hard to control. I called Thom to let him know and after talking, we agreed that that the problems I was having were more likely my inexperience with the low whistle (this was my first) rather than a serious problem with the head. Thom suggested I practice with it for a couple of weeks to see my control improved.

After a couple of weeks I came to the conclusion that I was a big part of the problem but that the whistle head was definitely a contributing factor. Thom happily took the whistle back for an exchange. The replacement arrived this afternoon. No more squawks, no more unexpected octave breaks, cuts now work. It sounded so beautiful that I spent the next hour or so playing it.

I still need to work on my breath control on the low notes, but everything else is great. I love the whistle.

Thanks Thom!
