More than half are creepy only through adult eyes, mind you. And as a general principle in playground structures I applaud all departures from the boring, generic, and safe. Some of those were pretty weird, however.
if children designed those without adult supervision, that explanation would make more sense.
I rather liked the older playgrounds where the equipment was simply functional - swings, jungle gyms, see-saws, slides, monkey bars, merry-go-rounds, etc. Generic, yes, but not boring to those who used it.
And not safe to the 21st century mindset. You could climb too high, slide too fast, and everything was metal or wood.
