Wow. This is the HQ of MI6, british military intelligence. What the hell was the architect thinking? That’s one seriously creepy building. Did the architect base this on Voldemort’s castle or the Eye of Sauron or something of like joviality??
It doesn’t look quite so creepy in other views. But still pretty Stalinesque. I love the death ray antennas mounted on the roofs. Or maybe they’re tuning forks.

A shame it’s not next door to St. George Wharf.

I don’t think it’s creepy. I think it’s pretty. I inhabit a strange and eery world here in the Forest.
all those years of buildin’ castles…
The Two Towers of MI6 HQ look like iron sights on a rifle…
I have a guess. That’s a bureaucrat’s delight of a building. There are enough nooks, crannies, porches, and other features in that building, that even the lowest level supervisor can still claim an office that has a vew or is nearby some special do-dad.
Certainly provides more target opportunities…if you’re in the twenty level basement there are of course other things to worry about.

Aha. The truth, finally. Ben is an elf.
Why only the other day someone called me an elfin … something or other. I thought it was sweet of them.
You have all overlooked the obvious. The architect is a double agent, working with Lego.
PLEASE do not mix these pieces up with your Harry Potter Hogwarts and your Death Star sets, or things are going to get weird.

My God, I think she’s right…

No worries here we only play with the Technics.
When I lived in Pittsburgh in the mid-70s, the Western Psychiatric Hospital had its main entrance at the top of a steep street, and behind the building at the top of the hill was an enormous radio mast. To a patient being taken in there it must have looked as if the mast was on top of the building…

The radio mast isn’t there any more and I can’t find a historical picture. Anybody?
It’s weird enough that everybody knows which is the Secret Service building. ![]()
The NSA in Maryland, USA is at the corner of two major highways. What one sees above ground is just the small tip of the basement.

The CIA HQ in the Bush Center for Central Intelligence, at Langley in McLean, is much nicer, they have better landscaping.

What’s odd is that her majesty’s government didn’t even publicly acknowledge the existence of MI6 until 1994. So I wonder how they explained to the public the House of Mordor going up right on the South Bank. A ziggurat to commemorate Britain’s Babylonian heritage?
“Hey, you! Yeah, you with the backpack. Come over here. And gimme that camera. You see nothing here. Got it? NOTHING. Now look closely at the tip of this device in my hand, and wait for the blinding flash …”
The centre for intelligence gathering in the UK is quite a nice design, I think:

does the design help in the application of circular logic?
Nah. It’s just a reminder of the usual diet of yer average spook/geek.
