Disaster in New York!

Now this is news:

Imagine recounting to the grandkids how you had to flee for higher ground on the day of the Great Popsicle Disaster of 2005.

I know. New Yorkers wear expensive shoes.

Beware of food disasters. Boston was the site of the Great Molasses Flood of 1919.

This may be urban myth, but supposedly years ago a few weeks before Thanksgiving a semi hauling frozen turkeys overturned on the Cross Bronx Expressway (NYC), spilling turkeys all over the road and causing a riot.

All we seem to get are rendering trucks on the ship canal bridge. You are soooo lucky!

"Giant Popsicle Melts, Floods New York Park… "

“As God as my witness I thought turkeys could fly…”

One of my all-time favorites!

Found this on the molasses page–the infamous Lake Peigneur disaster: http://members.tripod.com/~earthdude1/texaco/texaco.html

More importantly, oldtimers in Montreal still recall the day of the great Stanley Tavern beer flood.

The taps wouldn’t shut off, and a valiant crew of old men were forced to attempt to drink the tavern dry, lest all that beer go to waste.

Yeah like NYC doesn’t have freezing cold winters.

Canada has waaaay better refreshment-related disasters.

And universal health coverage. I’m moving. . .

Does anyone else remember the episode of WKRP in Cincinnati where they dropped frozen turkeys from a helicopter on a shopping mall parking lot for Thanksgiving?

djm

Clearly Beowulf573 does …

No kidding. Apparently the event planners weren;t paid enough to think “Gee, maybe January would be a better time of year. . . . .”

I’m surprised nobody has mentioned that TV show where some radio station tossed turkeys out of helicoptors.

It was a joke.

Ah, I see, American Humor. Very good. Ha.

OK, once again . . . “As God is my witness, I thought turkeys could fly . . .”

It wasn’t a joke . . . the guy actually thought that dropping them would be ok because he believed they could fly.

ah - Lambchop -

there is no WKRP in Cincinnati, it was a sitcom of a fictional radio station.

Although several years later, a real local radio station had the person who played Les Nesman on the show come in and throw one turkey out of a helicopter at a local mall. After that, he threw certificates for turkeys out of it. They roped off the area when he was throwing the turkey so no one would get hurt.

I would think the Turkey would get hurt. This just goes to show how stupid some people are.
