Dave Williams?

I was looking up information about Dave Williams, and I found this:

http://larkinthemorning.com/product.asp?pn=BAG170&Uilleann+(Irish)+Bagpipes+by+Dave+Williams=&bhcd2=1189653632

Can anyone ID these? I thought this would be really interesting if authentic. I’m sending Lark an email.

There should be laws against shops that peddle so much crud to handle top quality pipes.

If those are Williams pipes it is an insult to his memory.

Mukade

The pipes pictured in the link are indeed made by Dave Williams and back in the 1980s Dave supplied Lark in the Morning with basic practice sets. There’s no keys on the chanter and later on they even asked him to cut out the plastic mount at the top of the chanter. They did the same with his flutes - no keys and no tuning slide.

The big problem here is that this shop is still advertising something they haven’t had in stock for donkeys years. I’m sure Dave would see the funny side of the fact that they advertise spare chanter reeds for this set as “Special order”!!

I do remember that when I first got a Lark catalog in the mid-'90s, the uilleann pipes they advertised were by two different makers: Dave Williams and Denis Quigley ( I think…). I don’t remember them carrying any “bargain” Pakistani-made uilleann pipes at that time. The description in the catalog included a pic of a Dave Williams full set (which I think retailed for something like $5600) and I remember thinking “wow, that looks like it would be fun to play…”

A friend of mine who is quite a well-regarded flute player in Northern California used to play a 6-key Dave Williams flute that he bought from Lark in the Morning. No mounts or anything missing from it, as I recall.

Lord of the Strings, I know this is politically incorrect, but does this mean that you still haven’t received the 3/4 set you had on order from Dixon?!

No, we’re not going there…
