Do you know if the whole set made by Dave? The stock, bass drone, and tied in stock for the bellows, do not look like Daves work? I have an early set, 1980, by Dave and it looks nothing like this. Just wondering as the whole set looks sort of rough, including the stamps. Dave’s pipes, even his early pipes were always sort of elegant and well finished.

I had a williams set very similar to that one. Dave offered different levels of finish ,so the set in question is probably his standard model

RORY

Hello
Yes it’s a standard model from Dave Williams

Yep! for those who like austere minimalism , its still Williams on the inside.

“Yep! for those who like austere minimalism , its still Williams on the inside. Rory”.

Aye well, I hope so. Dave’s prices had certainly increased between 1979 and whatever year your price list is from Rory. Do you have the year for the price list? I’m guessing sometime during the 1990’s after Dave moved to Grimsby from Spilsby? My fully mounted half-set with tenor regulator cost £460 when it was completed in 1980. In 1998 I collected a baritone regulator and a lined head joint for a flute and they cost £480 together. Those were the days!

Heres a letter I received in December 1989, a deluxe full set for 1600 pounds, if we only had a time machine

PS Why is the image coming up so big

He wrote it in real big letters, because he knew you were nearsighted?

So we can all see what nice handwriting Dave has? Perhaps it’s like slowing-down a piece of music sometimes.

Yes! I’d have to agree, his handwriting is very nice. Handwritten letters are a rarity these days thanks to e-mail ,but thats the price for speed I suppose.
