I am the eldest of Dans grandchildren. I am looking for any film or video of Dan for family archives. I saw a programme in the mid eighties of him in Fanore with Eugene lamb but cannot find the full episode anywhere. There is a 7 minute clip of Eugene on YouTube and in the RTE archives taken from this episode of Patterns but no sign of the full episode. Can anyone help or at least point me in the right direction? Many thanks
My name is Conor O’Dowd
Aha, I’ve found the full episode in 3 parts on YouTube. The titles are Eugene Lambe - patterns parts 1, 2 and 3. V. Poor quality but at least I have some record of Dan now.
Glad you found some footage. Perhaps RTE have more in their vaults.
Have you seen the LPs with Dan and John Kelly on the cover? link I found one of these in the 90s, was excited that it might have some pipes and fiddle in there somewhere, but nope.
Many thanks. I have researched RTE archives but not found much. Other family members have some stuff and I recently bought the H Block album which has a track on by Dan. I’ve also bought the book “ In Safe Hands” which has a large section including photos of Dan.
yes we have the album with Dan on the front. As you say it’s an odd one as he doesn’t feature on the album.
One other thing I can’t find is a recording of an interview with Dan by RTE. can’t find it anywhere.
thanks again. Conor O’Dowd
That stock photo was used for more than one album fwiw. One of the lps even appeared in an edition of Father Ted.
I have a bunch of recordings of Dan if you want them. Also a few photographs, if I can find them. Also a few snaps of May taken at a tionol in Ennistymon, probably 1992 or so.
There’s also a set of recordings from the first tionol I Bettystown, made by Pat McNulty, I think Dan is included in those too but not fully sure, I’ll have to check.
