Its been quite some time since I’ve made a commercial post so I’m wanting to fill you in on my latest designs. I have made some subtle changes to the voicing on the soprano whistle heads which have sweetened the upper end and uses less air and has a bit more back pressure. They are a tad quieter from my previous version but still very powerful in even the largest session.
I have added the key of A to my line and its a real charmer. The head can be shared with the Bb as a set.
I have made some changes to the fipple design on the Low D which has greatly improved the strength of the low end and can be used as a session instrument. The changes have also sweetened the upper octave. This is something I’ve been working on for over 6 months now and I’m very satisfied with the results. Ted in another post has pointed out how this whistle plays in session so if you haven’t read his post I recommend you have a look.
I have also made my standard tuning to be Itrad tuning but will continue to offer “Equal Temperament” for those who want to play something other than Celtic repertoire. I’ve offered “Just” temperament in the past but it is so close to Itrad that I recommend the Itrad scale.
I now have an interactive website so anyone can make comments about my whistles and I welcome your comments.
And lastly it has been over 4 years now since I have adjusted my prices and with increased material costs and increased labor for the new designs, I’m having to raise my prices. However, I will hold the old prices until Jan. 1 so anyone wishing to order can do so at the old prices.
It continues to be a pleasure to make instruments for the whistling community and I will continue as long as I am able. I also appreciate being a part of the Chiff board as it is informative and fun to read.
