I’ve been very busy in the workshop lately and I suppose like other pipemakers when I work on a particular piece I don’t work on just one, but maybe half a dozen .Say for instance I’m boring chanters, with the time involved in setting up the machinery it wouldn’t make sense to just bore one, I usually bore six at a time .Because of this method of working I occasionally ,like now, have all the parts necessary to make up a practice set .For anyone interested I have a concert pitch practice set for sale.
The chanter is made from African ebony with imitation ivory mounts and German silver ferrules ,the chanter cap is made from ebony .The chanter is tuned to just intonation and is intended and fully capable of being the basis for a half or full set
The bag is made from calf leather and is lined internally with a thin layer of synthetic polymerised rubber. This makes the leather 100% airtight and will need no further treatment for the lifetime of the bag
The bellows cheeks are made from teak and are varnished and polished. The embossed leather gusset gets the same treatment as the leather used for the bag. The all metal hinge contains two miniature ball bearings that help promote a smooth action and a long trouble free life. I feel the metal hinge is better than a leather one as there is no unwanted movement between the inward and outward strokes that can cause a jerky action .The bellows outlet is integrated into the hinge plate. The bag bellows connection is the one supplied by NPU.
The set come’s in a lightweight case. I’m asking for 1480euros. The buyer pays for shipping and insurance.
If interested I can be contacted on markdpipes at eircom dot net
