Hi all!
I’m trying to find out the approximate cost of a working practice set that includes a two-keyed chanter made by Brian Howard, dating from the late 1970s or early 1980s. Any idea?
Howard practice sets don’t come up for sale very often. I saw that there was one listed on Uilleannobsession in 2021 with an asking price of 500 pounds sterling. Here’s the link: https://www.uilleannobsession.com/classifieds_sold_1.html
If you have that set and are intending to sell it the only way to find its actual value is to put it up for auction and see how high the bidding goes.
I see instruments sell for several times more than what the seller imagined they were worth all the time.
And I see sellers list things for several times more than anybody would pay for them. These instruments sit on auction sites for month after month, year after year, until the seller either 1) reduces the price or 2) takes down the auction.
I’ve seen sellers reduce the price of something over and over, going down a couple hundred dollars each time, and never get to a sell-able price. Other times when the instrument hits a sell-able price it gets snapped up.
