The coming weekend sees the annual Copenhagen Irish Festival taking place in, you guessed it, Copenhagen, Denmark.
Among the artists performing are such notables as Michael McGoldrick, John McSherry, and the band Gráda, including whistle & flute player Alan Doherty who performed on the LotR soundtrack. A host of “lesser” names and a very nice festival café environment makes this festival something I look forward to every year.
Now, I know I am going, and so is Jeroen/pixyy, also active on this board. Are there by any chance any other C&F’ers, whether Scandinavians, Germans or from somewhere else, who are going as well?
I can’t remember the lineup from two years ago, but there has been excellent concerts every year I’ve been to the festival…
In addition to the concerts, the festival café is a great place to hang out. The workshops are great too. Last year saw Mary Bergin teaching a whistle class, the year before that Tom Doorley taught in the flute workshop.
Only drawback this year is that the Odense Folk Festival takes place the same weekend; and Flook is playing there this year…
I checked you can still register Coppenhaggish.com. Play it safe–get the .dk, too
Please excuse me all for carrying on this old haggis joke. I never tasted the thing (scared by Haig’s ads ?), and I suspect the jokes were initiated by Englishpersons (PC) who may not be the fairest judges (PC2) when talking cuisine. Oops, here I may have initiated a FW about steack-and-kidney pie (with/without Bombay gin ?)
