Am considering a Copeland Low D, & like the idea of 3 piece for portability.
Any advantages or disadvantages? Your recomendation?
I currently play Overton & Howard low D’s both have their + & -'s.

I had a brass copeland low D for a few years, a two piece. I liked it very much. I never took it apart into its two pieces, I carried it in a long hard case. If you expect to always take it apart into three pieces it might be useful to get that one, but that means that you have to retune every time.
Three pieces would allow for easier fingering perhaps. You could rotate the lower three holes closer to the hand fingering them. I had considered asking Copeland to retrofit mine, but then I got used to piper’s grip and never bothered. I also carry mine in a a long case and don’t take it apart. The Copeland slides are greased, and carrying the pieces separately would be messy, and might attract dust and grit to the lubricant.
