I am without a kitchen for about a month. A couple of nights ago I made omelets for my wife and me, but the daughter wanted a hard-boiled egg. The Coleman stove gave up the ghost (we’ve since gotten a new propane Coleman stove – MUCH better), so I decided to try cooking a couple in the microwave. I figured I’d put them in a Pyrex cup with a pint of water. Put them in for 5 minutes on high, the water was almost boiling at that point. Then I put them in for 5 minutes at 50%. About 3 minutes in we hear this great kaboom. The workers were still in the kitchen, I thought they might have slipped and bonked something. But then I realized the nuke had turned off. The eggs had exploded so violently that they blew the microwave door open. There was egg over half the dining room. All the water from the cup was either in the dining room or in or underneath the microwave.
I wanted to try again and stop at 7 1/2 minutes, but my wife wouldn’t let me. I did the cleaning up; I suspect she thought I’d be in there, watching, and might have had my face blown off if they exploded again.
