I recently bought a d chanter from a boot sale and since then i`ve aquired a reed for it. It plays excellently in both upper and lower octaves BUT, c# plays so flat it soundds like c natural. Anyone any clues how to get it to play correctly??
The chanter was made by either oggie or martin Doyle
Did you remove the trained earwig from the chanter?
Who made the reed?
My first guess would be leaky sides.
reed may be too long. MAY need clip and then the obv. scrape.
Reed was a Brian Howard off the shelf reed. He hasn’t reeded it to the chanter.
It may be the reed needs a scrape and clip, whats the back D like? please note don’t interfere with the chanter its self, your very lucky it only has a C# problem that can be put right,
