I have got a (narrow-bore) c-flat chanter which is perfectly in tune except one tone:
If I play the E (witch is the #F on a D-Chanter) in the lower octave in the regular way (xxxxoxx) it is nearly a quarter-tone too sharp.
If I also lift the lower fingers (xxxxooo) and play it open it is perfectly in tune again, but not very handy to play; especially for a closed finger style.
Does anybody have an idea how to solve this problem?

are you sure it’s really a Cflat? I’ve never heard of such a key for pipes. Did Andreas fit the reed to the chanter himlself or did you just buy one from him and fit it yourself? If the latter, maybe you should try seating the reed lower in the chanter throat by removing some of the binding from the bottom of the reed staple to bring it up to C natural.
thanks for your advise kevin.
i didnt touch the reed the last days and fortunately the problem has nearly gone by ‘self-healing-effect’ without doing anything at all.
surprise! surprise!
