Clean your whistle!

A while back, I posted that I was looking for a new Low F because I was unhappy with the performance of my Overton on the very highest notes in the second octave.

Well. . .

Last week I cleaned my Goldie Overton Low F thoroughly because a kid had grabbed the thing and blew into it right after eating potato chips. The kid was three years old, so all I could do was glare at hia parents. However. . .

After that throrough cleaning, I suddenly have a lovely upper register! Not screechy, not hard on the ears (loud, sure, but it’s an Overton. Spot-on. I can only guess that a gradual accumulation of lung-grunge or something had somehow built up to the point where it was affecting the high notes.

So, now I don’t have to go buy a new Low F. Yet. (I was impressed enough by what I heard of the O’Briain to still be considering it, or possibly a composite Burke.)

So, Colin’s whistle is a clear winner. I’m so glad to have my top end back!

Eureka! I feel better too.

It’s a good whistle, Phil; I’m glad you gave it up so I had a shot at it.

My wife’s much happier about the clean upper register, too, as are our parrots. Much more pleasant at home, nowadays…
