Hi all -
Anyone familiar with Christmas tune that is often paired up with Silent Night ? It may be called the Cradle Song? The melody fits nicely over the slower Silent Night. I’d hum a few bars but that wouldn’t work here… I’m looking for any help; lyrics, music or even the correct title would be nice.
thanks,
Tom
Can’t help you with The Cradle Song, but I always put O’ Holy Night and Silent Night together. They seems to blend beautifully.
Hope that helps.
Mike
You might be looking for W.J. Kirkpatrick’s version of “Away in a Manger” which is frequently called “The Cradle Song.” I googled it and found several links including this one http://www.sheetmusic2print.com/Sheet-Music.aspx?id=2604. You only get to look at the first half of the tune (they will sell you the the other half for a few bucks) but you can tell if this is the tune you are looking for. You probably can find an ABC file somewhere for free. Kirkpatrick wrote the tune in the 1890’s so I doubt it is still copyrighted.
BTW, there are several versions of “Away in a Manger” floating around. Look for “Afton Water,” (Welch) and “Il Est Ne’, Le Divin Enfant” (French), both traditional tunes. Those two togehter with the American version of “Away in a Manger” (look in any hymn book) and Kirkpatrick’s version above make a nice four-tune medley.
There is an Irish song, probably originally in Gaelic, that is sometimes called “The Cradle Song” and Englished as follows:
My love, my pride, my pleasure-O
My wonder new and treasure-O
My love, my beauty, ever You
Who am I to bear You here?
It is a Nativity song that is usually sung acapella, but it sounds beautiful on pennywhistle or flute. Might go with Silent Night.

Hey ! Another, more exciting thread made me stumble upon this.
Night of Silence
This is the song I was looking for Christmas before last.
Thanks for the other suggestions, by the way, but this is the one.
