There is now a Wilkes keyless D flute on E-bay. This E-bay auction has been mentioned yesterday in the Byrne flute thread, but I think it’s worthy of it’s own thread. Location Wexford, Ireland. Made 2012 and looks hardly played, still has the gold leaf on the stamps. Another fine Wilkes flute that will probably go for around £1,100 or so http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Chris-Wilkes-keyless-flute-in-D-Blackwood-/151634922490?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_205&hash=item234e254bfa
I wonder what the waiting list is for a keyless Wilkes? On his website, Chris Wilkes says he has a waiting list of 10 years,
and on the last ebay auction, 15 years was mentioned. Does this long waiting list apply for any Wilkes flute regardless of
whether it is keyed or not?
Contact Chris.
I know people who have gotten keyless flutes in much less time including someone who got a keyless flute with nearly no wait as it was made in a ‘batch’ with other keyless flutes, if I understood what she was saying correctly.
All the best,
Patrick
Hello Patrick,
Thank you for your helpful reply. How are you getting on with your Monzani? My father was so impressed
with yours that he went out and bought an 8 key one in ebony with two heads! We are currently in the
process of restoring it. We have never seen workmanship to this standard on any of the English ones we
have restored to date.
why don’t you write to chris and ask him? he’s had alot going in his life besides flutemaking so it seems you could get better answer from him about delivery times.
Just over seven hours to go before the bidding ends. It’s at £785 now, just £75 over the list price for a keyless Wilkes. These are really fine flutes and although they grew on trees, they are not that easy to get hold of.
£990.88 or 1370 euros or $1422 an ok price, no wait.
Hello 2 Toots (Owen?)
Sorry I forgot to reply to this. Glad to hear you guys went for a Monzani.
I love mine. Plays like nothing else. But I am less thrilled with the other head that has a rather rough circular embouchure. The bushed embouchure head plays great.
Would love to hear yours when you guys get it up and running.
All the best,
Patrick
