Chieftains DVD

Just ordered Chieftains Water from the Well DVD. Havent recieved it yet but can’t wait. Does anyone know if it’s any good??

Oh… it Sure is good!

I love the DVD. It’s actually the dvd that really got me into the irish music (yes.. just a beginner here). I think I’ve seen it over 5 times already.

Haven’t seen the DVD but I saw the Chieftans live on Wednesday night in Melbourne, FL. My wife surprised me with tickets for Christmas and it was fantastic. They’re currently promoting Down the Old Plank Road which was recorded in Nashville and has a strong country flavor. Country’s not really my thing but even that sounded good when played by Irish guys.

I was within range of the Chieftans’ concert in Melbourne, Florida. However, when you combine 1) babysitter for my 3 lil’ darlin’s 2)$75-$96 for 2 tickets & 3) that it was a school night, I had to be a no-show. Therefore, I awarded meself a consolation prize: “Water from the Well” DVD.
I was delighted with it. It is not a concert, per se, but a collection of recording/sessions interspersed with interviews with members of the Chieftans. You get the them in a pub playing while folks dance intercut with Paddy Moloney at his grandparents little house recalling from his youth 30 or 40 people coming over for dancing & playing on summers evenings. In Matt Maloy’s pub you see the musicians packed cheek-by-jowl, the head on a glass of Guiness bouncing in time to the music that’s filling the place… and such like.
BTW, shouldn’t you have asked for reviews BEFORE ordering? I know, I know, “Where’s the adventure in that?”
