Cherish the Ladies Celtic Christmas Celebration
One show only… advance payment required by check!
Over the past 16 years, the name of a time honored Irish traditional jig has become equally well known as the name for one of the most engaging ensembles in Irish music - Cherish the Ladies. They have grown from a one-time concert concept to an Irish traditional music sensation, literally the most successful and sought after Irish-American group in Celtic music history. With their unique blend of virtuoso instrumental talents, beautiful vocals, captivating arrangements and stunning step dancing, this powerhouse group combines all the facets of Irish traditional culture and puts it forth in an immensely humorous and entertaining package. They have shared the stage with James Taylor, Joan Baez, Emmy Lou Harris, The Clancy Brothers, The Chieftains and dozens of symphony orchestras. And the girls blaze forward… named Best Musical group of the year for 2002 by the BBC and this year’s top North American Celtic act by NPR radio’s “Thistle and Shamrock,” Cherish the Ladies continue to enchant audiences worldwide. Joanie Madden, the leader of the group, was born and raised in New York and is a World Champion on both the whistle and the concert flute. In 1984, Joanie became the only American to ever win the Senior All-Ireland Championship on the whistle and is the youngest member ever to be inducted into the Irish-American Musicians Hall of Fame. Original member Mary Coogan is a self taught guitar, mandolin and banjo player and is a highly sought after accompanist. Donna Long is considered one of the finest pianists playing Irish music. Along with Brendan Mulvihill, they recorded two duet albums together and she can also be heard as a guest artist on the movie soundtrack “Out of Ireland.” Heidi Talbot was born and raised in County Kildare and is the new vocalist and bodhran player for the band who will also be joined by stepdancers for this holiday show.
