cassette tape funerals

I know cassette tapes have really gone the way of the dinosaurs, but it’s still very sad when one of your favorites bites the dust.

RIP my Andrew Lloyd Webber, The Premier Collection, Best Of Andrew Lloyd Webber tape. Marti Webb’s Tell Me On A Sunday will never sound quite the same to me.

The first cassette I ever bought was Alanis Morissette’s Jagged Little Pill. I was about 12, and it used the word ‘fuck’ so it was a big deal to me. I also had Ru Paul’s Supermodel Of The World on cassette at around the same time. I had them both for years, but they eventually died. I didn’t even have proper funerals, though…I just bought them on CD. :frowning:

I always made a copy of any cassette tape I bought. I used 90 minute tapes, so could easily get both sides of a “professional” tape onto one side of a copy tape (this was before the “auto-reverse” feature).

So - most of my tapes have only been played a few times to make copies. One of these days, we’ve got to sit down and burn CD-R’s of some of these, cuz I can’t find some in actual “professional” CD’s.

And some of my tapes are copies of LP’s…

This is getting TOO confusing! Or I’m getting too old! :astonished:

Missy

The first cassette I ever got had “Don’t Stand So Close to Me” on it by the Police. I was about 12..you weren’t born yet

I think my first cassette tape was Men At Work. Vegemite sandwich, anyone?

This??

Tony, it’s the bottom one… but you know how it is, replacements are never the same as your first.

I’m sort of ashamed to admit that, if my memory serves me correctly, the first CD I ever bought was by Céline Dion.

BECAUSE YOU LOVED ME!

Since we are doing confessions: I admit that, once upon a time, I owned a Raggedy Ann and Andy eight track.

I had Andy Williams on an 8 track…
I can’t remember what my first cassette was now. More than likely Madonna or the Police. Oh wait, no, I had my one Police album on LP. Oh well…must have been Madonna then

My first LP was Shaun Cassidy, “Do You Believe In Magic”…::dreamy sigh:: :stuck_out_tongue:

Oh I LOVED Shaun Cassidy  I had a shirt with his face on it and everything ::more dreamy sighs::

OMG!!! I did too!! And a lunch box.

I started to buy a Sinéad O’Connor LP once…but I’d have nothing to do with it besides decorate.

I didn’t have a lunch box. But he WAS dreamy wasn’t he?

Poor cran, never had a record player. I feel so blasted old now :stuck_out_tongue:

A, does this mean you’re not going to replace your tape ??

My grandmother has a record player. It’s one of those huge wooden kinds that opens up on top, and has giant speakers on the sides. It now serves as a TV shelf, though. She’s had it my entire life.

Actually, T, I’m contemplating performing surgery on it.

I’ve heard that scotch tape can kind of work mabey possibly. But I’ve never tried. So don’t sue me if it actually dies.

A, it’s $2.50 + freight. I say splurge. You owe it to yourself
