I know cassette tapes have really gone the way of the dinosaurs, but it’s still very sad when one of your favorites bites the dust.
RIP my Andrew Lloyd Webber, The Premier Collection, Best Of Andrew Lloyd Webber tape. Marti Webb’s Tell Me On A Sunday will never sound quite the same to me.
The first cassette I ever bought was Alanis Morissette’s Jagged Little Pill. I was about 12, and it used the word ‘fuck’ so it was a big deal to me. I also had Ru Paul’s Supermodel Of The World on cassette at around the same time. I had them both for years, but they eventually died. I didn’t even have proper funerals, though…I just bought them on CD.
I always made a copy of any cassette tape I bought. I used 90 minute tapes, so could easily get both sides of a “professional” tape onto one side of a copy tape (this was before the “auto-reverse” feature).
So - most of my tapes have only been played a few times to make copies. One of these days, we’ve got to sit down and burn CD-R’s of some of these, cuz I can’t find some in actual “professional” CD’s.
And some of my tapes are copies of LP’s…
This is getting TOO confusing! Or I’m getting too old!
I had Andy Williams on an 8 track…
I can’t remember what my first cassette was now. More than likely Madonna or the Police. Oh wait, no, I had my one Police album on LP. Oh well…must have been Madonna then
My grandmother has a record player. It’s one of those huge wooden kinds that opens up on top, and has giant speakers on the sides. It now serves as a TV shelf, though. She’s had it my entire life.
