For me there never WAS a legend. I grew up listening to her because my mother loved her music. So, for me, it was only ever the music. And what music it was.
I think a person had to be the right age to get the Brady Bunch. And then it depended on how fond a person was of Marsha or pork chops and applesauce. Nonetheless, there is a lot of healing energy to be had in the Brady Bunch. Now quit your snorting or tell us who your pre-teen crush was.
My sibs and I had the most fun with the Brady Bunch. Once we’d absorbed the gestalt of the show, we scripted and voiced our own spoof episodes on the old cassette recorder. I wish those recordings hadn’t aged to death. I’m sure they’d be highly embarrassing. We did the same thing with
The Waltons. I always played Elizabeth because I could do her foggy, nasally baby voice.
On the last Waltons episode I recall doing, we actually provided the theme song as well–my cousin Bev plunking out the treble line on piano, while my brother strummed the chords.
I had this big huge dollhouse which was a replica of the Walton’s house. It even had little cardboard figures of each of the Waltons. The coolest part of the darn thing was the chimney. It was open, and we could take Elizabeth and shove her down it and have her come out the fireplace at the bottom. Good times, good times…
This was as it should be. David was too old for Izz. I was supposed to have a crush on him. But, see…as I’ve alluded to, in my somewhat irreverent clan that’s not the way we rolled. Instead of admiring David Cassidy, when we watched The Partridge Family on tv, we laughed about how they obviously gave the little sister Tracy a dud tambourine, so that when she hit it completely out of time, it wouldn’t wreck the pre-recorded music track.
It was my role in life–if all the other girls loved Donny Osmond, or Bobby Sherman–to disdain him with all my might. Contrarian. I was born that way.
I’ve loved to listen to Janis since the day back in '68 when I got this and put it on the turntable- it blew me away… no one can touch her..timeless
(in art class we had to do a painting-I painted the illustration off this cover for “I need a man to love” and got a bit of a reprimand)
Patsy is another unique voice-not my “cup of tea” as far as musical genre, but I can apperciate her talent and ability. I did like the movie bio.
I hated the Bradys back yhen and still can’t abide it today.
If her royal highness knew Janis from her Mom’s records I think David Cassidy woulda been a bit before her time- but I get what type you’re aiming at. I can remember tormenting a friend of mine in school, teasing her mercilessly by saying she was in love with Bobby Sherman. But then I also remember making my eldest actually cry when we were watching the Stones and I said she loved Keith Richards. Oh well. I still think of that every time I see his picture. Hmmm, the Iz isn’t a decade older than my eldest I don’t think.
Izzy, was your pre-teen crush Keith Richards??? (and I don’t mean to make anyone shed a tear again)
I was watching Law and Order here the other night and the new boss looked just like the dad in the Bradys. The shows are not shown in sequence here so it is hard to keep up with things..
I don’t honestly believe that the Brady dad is the guy on Law and Order..too many years..but he looks just like him.
Slan,
D.
